Thanks to the innovative 'Opening Technique Training for police officers and justice staff',
developed by ETCB, police and justice units can save millions.

This groundbreaking training, led by instructors with over 20 years of practical experience in opening doors for the police, almost completely eliminates the need for a battering ram or locksmith. The Rotterdam officer who introduced this concept to the police and advocated for ETCB trainings even won the 2015 Good Idea Award, accompanied by a €1,000 prize. This officer successfully completed the ETCB training and subsequently started the PSO project (Police Lock Support), proving that progress is within reach.

As a result, the use of the traditional battering ram is expected to decline, although not all officers may be equally enthusiastic. Nevertheless, the cost savings it brings certainly raise questions.

Over the years, our instructors have made significant improvements to the well-known standard PSO. These improvements include the use of more advanced and smarter techniques, enabling entry processes to be performed faster and with less damage. Participants also receive training in identifying and resolving possible complications, so they can make well-considered choices in every situation.

The training focuses on mastering techniques for all types of locks, as not every neighborhood or municipality has the same locks. Both destructive and non-destructive opening methods are extensively covered. Topics include:

  • Cylinder locks/profile cylinders opening: Basic and advanced techniques, including solutions for secured locks and cylinders that cannot be drilled or pulled.

  • Opening rim locks, auxiliary locks, and padlocks: Methods to open these locks quickly and efficiently.

  • Opening lever locks: Skills for lever locks, meter cupboards, storage units, and interior doors, commonly found in older buildings.

  • Opening pin locks: Techniques for various designs and applications.

  • Opening multipoint locks and solving access problems: Practical solutions for defective multipoint locks and other complications.

  • Fishing via the letterbox: From basic to advanced, including opening knob cylinders and doors with keys left inside.

  • Sliding a card (various methods): Techniques to open doors without damage.

  • Opening locks with anti-pull protection: Both when doors are locked with a night latch and when pulled shut without a letterbox and card sliding is not possible.

  • Bulgarian method: Breaking cylinders that protrude from the fitting, without damage.

  • Opening tilt-and-turn windows: Specific techniques for this type of window.

  • Using the reversed door viewer: Safely inspecting interiors.

  • Opening doors with keys inside via letterbox method: Advanced techniques for opening locked doors.

  • Various other techniques: Additional methods and solutions for different situations.

The latest techniques are discussed during the training and practiced directly. There is much focus on methods that combine speed with minimal damage, as well as recognizing possible complications or booby traps to ensure safety. We also use tools such as the reversed door viewer to safely and carefully check the interior of a room.

Participants can also present real-life situations during the training, and there is ample room for questions so that everyone can finish the day without unanswered doubts.

The training not only focuses on the actual opening, but also on analyzing and understanding the construction of different locks (how a lock is built and how it can be manipulated). This aligns with the demand from police and justice departments to train staff with the latest market developments and the great variety of lock types within the Netherlands.
